  • That the Minutes of the Middlesex County Council Meeting held on May 11, 2021 be approved as presented

Councillor Mayhew addressed County Council at the May 11, 2021 meeting as follows:
"I wish to advise County Council of a Notice of Motion that I will be bringing forth in these chambers at the May 25th, 2021 meeting. Yesterday, May 10th, 2021 I was advised of another collision at the corner of Glendon Drive and Melbourne Road. This corner has had accumulation of accident history through no fault of engineering but entirely on poor driving habits. It is a conversation of concern that is brought to me weekly by individuals in my municipality.
I have had discussion with Middlesex County staff in the past expressing my concern. These began on December 18th of 2019, and again brought forward on January 22nd, 2020, and April 24th, 2020. Improvements were made that go beyond the requirements of existing regulations. Larger stop signs, intensive rumble strips, weed control, and I and my CAO arranged for the relocation of private signage. I am appreciative of these improvements.
In my discussions - I have always been a proponent of the effectiveness of light as a vehicle for awareness and suggested strongly that this intersection be a “Pilot Project” for 2 LED Stop Signs. These are very cost effective and may enhance awareness at historically problematic intersections. The element of light is effective in day light hours as well as evening hours. They are in use in other county jurisdictions with a history of benefit and can alert drivers from 800 meters.
I respectfully advise Council and Staff that I will bring forth a Notice of Motion at the May 25th, 2021 meeting of Middlesex County Council.
"That the corner of Glendon Drive and Melbourne Road be a Pilot Project for 2 LED stop signs in the North and South bound directions. And that staff procure and have commissioned products suitable for the application. And this be observed as a pilot project for a period of 2 years; and to be assessed in a manner regarding the enhancement of visibility, durability, statistical events, and cost effectiveness."
